The AIS extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of rower Sarah Tait (nee Outhwaite) who passed away last night after a battle with illness.

AIS Director Matt Favier said it was a sad day for Australian sport and the AIS.

“Sarah was an exceptional rower who was an AIS scholarship for periods at the AIS between 2008 and 2011, also training with both the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) and Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS).

“In an outstanding career Sarah went to three Olympic Games (2004, 2008 and 2012) and memorably won a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics with Kate Hornsey in the Women’s Pair, which was also coached by her husband Bill.

“Our thoughts are also with the Australian rowing community at this time.”
