Outstanding achievements by community coaches, schools and Out of School Hours Care Services in the AASC program are recognised through the annual 5 Star Community Coach and Super Site Awards.
What is the 5 Star Community Coach Award?
The 5 Star Community Coach Award is an award that recognises outstanding achievement in coaching within the Active After-school Communities (AASC) program.
It is the objective of the AASC program to provide young people with fun positive experiences through sport and physical activity. High quality coaching is essential for the success of the program and the 5 Star Community Coach is one way of recognising those coaches who excel in this area.
How is a coach nominated for the 5 Star Community Coach Award?
AASC program community coaches are nominated by their local regional coordinator each term. Regional coordinators complete a nomination form detailing how their selected community coach has excelled in all of the criteria below.
Schools or Out of School Hours Care Services (OSHCS) may also nominate a community coach to receive the award by suggesting their nomination to their local regional coordinator.
How is the 5 Star Community Coach Award selected?
The 5 Star Community Coach Award is evaluated against the following five key criteria:

How does a coach win the 5 Star Community Coach Award?
There are two categories for the 5 Star Community Coach Award:
- 5 Star Community Coach State Award: State awards are presented each term which totals four awards per year (3 awards per year for TAS). A panel of regional coordinators within each state/territory then assesses all applications and selects an overall winner based on the criteria above.
- 5 Star Community Coach National Award: At the end of the year, each state/territory nominates one of the term winners from that year to be considered for the 5 Star Community Coach National Award. An independent panel of regional coordinators then assesses all applications and selects an overall winner based on the above criteria.
What does a 5 Star Community Coach Award winner receive?
All state award winners receive:
- a 5 Star Community Coach of the term certificate;
- a 5 Star Community Coach embroidered deliverer shirt;
- a prize up to the value of $50; and
- recognition in state newsletters
The national award winner receives:
- a 5 Star Community Coach of the year certificate; and
- a prize up to the value of $500.00;
All nominees and the national winner are featured in the AASC national newsletter.
What is the Super Site Award?
The Super Site Award recognises the outstanding contribution made by schools and Outside of School Hours Care Services (OSHCS) in the coordination and delivery of the Active After-school Communities (AASC) program.
How is a School/OSHCS nominated for the Super Site Award?
Schools or OSHCS may be nominated for the award by their local regional coordinator throughout the year. Regional coordinators complete a nomination form detailing how their selected school or OSHCS has excelled in all of the criteria below.
How is the Super Site Award selected?
Super Site Award nominees are evaluated against the following five key criteria:

How does a School or OSHCS win the Super Site Award?
The Super Site Award is awarded in Term 4 of every year to a school or OSHCS within each state and territory. An independent panel of regional coordinators within each state assesses all nominations that have been received throughout the year and selects a winner based on the criteria above.
What does a Super Site Award winner receive?
All Super Site Award winners receive:
- a special Super Site plaque
- a $500 voucher to spend at Hart Sport ; and
- recognition in the AASC national newsletter.
A special presentation is also organised at the winning school or OSCHS to present the plaque.
