CCTP information
What is the Community Coach Training Program (CCTP)?
The Australian Sports Commission has developed the Community Coach Training Program (CCTP) to train people interested in delivering in the Active After-school Communities (AASC) program.
The Community Coach Training Program (CCTP) is a combination of Beginning Coaching General Principles and the Playing for Life principles. It has a particular emphasis on management and delivery strategies for primary school aged children.
It is a FREE course delivered to interested parties by regional coordinators across all four AASC zones in Australia. It supports participants to develop the necessary skills to deliver sport and other structured physical activities within the Playing for Life philosophy, a requirement for delivering in the AASC program. The course also provides participants with ideas, strategies and resources to deliver game-based activities for sports such as netball, hockey and rugby league etc, as well as other structured physical activities such as dance and circus skills.
The five CCTP modules are:
- Active After-school Communities program overview
- Communication and Behaviour Management
- Safe Environments
- Nutrition and Well-being
- Planning, Preparing, Delivering and Reviewing Playing for Life activity sessions
Total Duration 11.0 hours
The course covers theory and practical work and is presented in an interactive competency-based environment. Modules 2,3 and 4 are completed online prior to attending a CCTP.
What is the Playing for Life philosophy?
The Playing for Life philosophy is based on the game sense approach to coaching, which uses games, rather than drills, to introduce the principles of a particular sport or other structured physical activity.
Coaches are taught how to continuously modify games to challenge and engage children of all ability levels and backgrounds, ensuring they have a fun and successful experience.
Who can complete the Community Coach Training Program?
Anyone can complete a CCTP — school teachers, OSHCS staff, development officers from National Sporting Organisations/State Sporting Associations, local club personnel, local government staff, parents, private providers, senior secondary or tertiary students, parents, community members, volunteers, professional coaches, beginner coaches, athletes etc. All that is needed is the desire to have fun helping kids get active.
What are the benefits of completing a CCTP?
Once a course has been completed, and all registration requirements met, some benefits may include:
- payment for coaching (if insurances are in place)
- access to excellent resources at all schools and after-school care centres operating the AASC program, including Playing for Life activity kits and equipment
- support and training through a locally based regional coordinator
- opportunities to develop networks and pathways to increase club memberships
- a fantastic way to volunteer in the local community and/or to complete work experience and student placements.
Can credit be given for previous qualifications obtained?
Participants can apply for credit for part of the Community Coach Training Program (modules 2, 3 and 4) if they have:
- teaching qualifications or are currently undertaking fourth year teaching qualifications
- childcare qualifications (Certificate III or above)
