Netball Australia and AASC joint accreditation

Netball Australia Foundation Coach

The Active After-school Communities (AASC) program and Netball Australia have partnered to establish a process whereby coaches who have completed the AASC Community Coach Training Program (CCTP) have the opportunity to be awarded the Netball Australia Foundation Coach (previously Level 1) Accreditation under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS).

The Foundation Coaching Accreditation is the first step in Netball Australia’s coaching accreditation framework and is an accredited course with the NCAS.

Training and assessing community coaches

The partnership between Netball Australia and the AASC program recognises the vital contribution regional coordinators can play in assisting sports to increase the number of accredited coaches at community level.

Netball Australia has acknowledged the extensive reach AASC regional coordinators have around Australia and the skills and expertise they possess in regards to training and assessment. As such, Netball Australia has recognised them as having the necessary skills to train and assess community coaches and deem them competent to gain their Netball Foundation Accreditation.

Netball Foundation Accreditation process

The process for community coaches to gain their Netball Foundation Accreditation is twofold. Community coaches must first complete the CCTP. The CCTP covers the same general principle components as the Netball Australia Foundation Coaching Course.

After successful completion of the CCTP, those coaches wishing to gain their Foundation Accreditation must then watch the Netball Australia Skills of Netball Foundation DVD to gain the sports specific knowledge of the Foundation Level Accreditation. They may then be appraised for full registration by a regional coordinator, conducting a netball focused session incorporating one or two key netball skills, delivered in line with the Playing for Life approach to coaching.

Following their successful infield appraisal conducting a netball session, community coaches will be eligible to apply for their Foundation Accreditation.

Interested coaches should review the Enjoy coaching netball brochure before discussing the Netball Foundation Accreditation with their regional coordinator.
