Registration

Only individuals may be registered with the AASC program, as the terms and conditions require individual responsibility and accountability.

Prospective community coaches submit a completed Probationary Registration Application form to their AASC Regional Coordinator.  The  form must be accompanied by:

  • Evidence of current CPR qualifications where a community coach has nominated an aquatic based activity.
  • If the applicant is 18 years or older (or 14 years 9 months in NSW; or 15 years in NT), evidence of satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Record Check.  Satisfactory evidence may be supplied through provision of one of the following:
    • Evidence of completion of a state legislated Working with Children Check
    • Evidence of current teacher registration within an Australian state or territory
Otherwise, applicant must submit an Informed Consent form for the ASC to conduct a National Criminal History Record Check on their behalf.  Probationary registration will not be accepted until the outcome of this check has been completed.
  • Evidence of completion of a Community Coach Training Program.

Where individuals are representing an organisation, that organisation must be recognised by the AASC program. Organisations interested in gaining recognition should complete the Recognition of Organisation Application form.

Where an individual applicant indicates in their application for probationary registration that they are representing an organisation, they must:

A letter will be sent to a successful community coach once there has been a positive assessment of the Probationary Registration Application form and supporting requirements.

The letter will contain a card which is proof of probationary registration status as an Active After-school Communities (AASC) program community coach. Community coaches are encouraged to carry the card and ID with them when delivering in the AASC program as site coordinators may request to view them.

All community coaches are subject to a probationary period of six months. During this period they will be required to undertake, and satisfactorily complete, a practical assessment to gain full registration.

Should the six month probationary period expire before full registration is obtained, probationary registration will lapse and the community coach will be ineligible to continue providing services in the AASC program. The regional coordinator will liaise with the probationary community coach to ensure that the Appraisal for Full Registration is completed within the six month time frame.

If all requirements are met, full registration lasts for a period of two years. Prior to registration expiring, regional coordinators will contact community coaches to determine if they would like to renew their registration for another two years and continue as a community coach in the AASC program.

If a community coach does not renew their registration they will be ineligible to continue providing services in the AASC program. If they wish to return to the program at a later date they must contact their regional coordinator to discuss re-entry requirements. If it is not known who the regional coordinator is, contact can be made with the relevant zone administrator who will be able to assist.
