Schools and OSHCS

Schools and Out of School Hours Care Services (OSHCS) (sites) can express their interest to participate in the Active After-school Communities (AASC) program by completing either the primary schools or OSHCS Expression of Interest Form for one of the four AASC zones and submitting it to the administrator listed on the form. The AASC zones are:

  • Eastern zone (NSW/ACT)
  • Northern zone (Qld/NT)
  • Southern zone (Vic/Tas)
  • South west zone (WA/SA)

Applicants will be assessed on the following selection criteria:

  • diversity and equity across identified parameters. Identified parameters include, but are not limited to, socio-economic status, demographics, support to minority groups and balance of site type.
  • capacity to meet the AASC program outcomes and requirements based on the details provided within the Expression of Interest form.
  • equitable regional, zone and national representation.
  • clearly identified supervision/coordination plan to run the program on an ongoing basis.
  • date expression of interest is received.

Notification will be provided to sites as to the outcome of the selection process. The outcome will be one of the following:

  • accepted - a site has met all requirements of the selection criteria and there is a position available for involvement in the AASC program.
  • pending - a site has met all requirements of the selection criteria, but the regional coordinator is at capacity for the number of sites involved in the AASC program in their region. This site is added to a pending list and will be offered a placement as positions become available.
  • declined - a site has not met all requirements of the selection criteria.

Once selected a AASC Regional Coordinator will contact you to confirm your site's involvement and arrange to meet with your nominated teacher/staff member to start the planning process.

Support available to AASC program sites includes:

  • the ability to apply for funding to cover costs incurred in the delivery of the program, including remuneration of costs for the provision of supervising teachers, payment for the delivery of the program and purchasing of equipment.
  • a designated AASC Regional Coordinator to assist in linking primary schools or OSHCS to community coaches.
  • a quality assurance framework to ensure that the AASC provides fun, safe and quality experiences for children and is delivered by suitably qualified and accredited personnel.
  • professional development opportunities for volunteers, teachers, OSHCS staff and community members to deliver structured physical activity.

Please contact your AASC Regional Coordinators or the zone administrator if you wish to discuss anything related to the Expression of Interest process.
