AFL 9s

3The Australian Football League (AFL) has partnered with the Australian Sports Commission to provide children with an introductory AFL 9s program.

AFL 9s is the AFL’s official alternative and modified version of the game of Australian Football. It has been developed to provide an opportunity for all Australian Football enthusiasts and those new to the game, to enjoy a match play experience that has strong parallels with the traditional game.

The Playing for Life - AFL 9s Manual features a seven week games based activity focusing on the skills of ball handling, kicking, handballing, evasion and marking. Towards the end of the program, children will have an opportunity to play their own game of AFL 9s.

Schools, Out of School Hours Care Centres and coaches delivering the Playing for Life - AFL 9s program should consider purchasing the junior AFL 9s kit which contains all of the equipment needed to deliver the program.

Community coaches who deliver AFL 9s programs can also encourage AASC participants to continue to play AFL at their local club.

More information can be found on the Play AFL website.

Play AFL promotion flyers can be provided through contacting AASC program Regional Coordinators
