The Women and Sport Unit's mission is to foster a culture that actively:

  • advocates the enduring values of fair play and inclusive practices in sport, and
  • promotes equality and respect for women and girls in all aspects of sport with the aim of creating in sport settings that are more inclusive and supportive of the participation of women and girls

The program provides:

  • consultancy advice and support to Government, National Sporting Organisations and national agencies
  • leadership and a coordinated approach to women and sport issues to key national/state agencies and networks
  • policy advice
  • resource development
  • research
  • advice to enquires from public, media and sport industry
  • advocacy of the principles and values of equity
  • contribution to international programs and networks
  • funding through the Sports Leadership Grants for Women program
