Sport Leadership Grants for Women
The Australian Sports Commission would like to congratulate the successful recipients of the Sport Leadership Grants for Women 2008/09. You will find the grant acquittal templates at the bottom of the page.
The Sport Leadership Grants for Women program is an initiative of the Australian Government that is jointly managed by the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Government Office for Women.
The grants are available in five key areas:
- high performance coaching and officiating
- Indigenous women
- women in disability sport
- women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- women in general sport leadership.
The program is aimed at providing women with an opportunity to undertake sport leadership training.
The program provides successful applicants with a one-off grant of up to $5000 for individuals (applications must be through an incorporated organisation) and up to $10,000 for incorporated organisations. In addition to their identified projects, successful individual applicants will be invited to attend a leadership workshop covering a range of leadership and development topics, including effective communication, conflict resolution and influencing change. All successful applicants will be involved in the evaluation of the grants program and contribute to its continual improvement.
Examples:
- Hayley, a CEO of a sporting organisation, used funding to attend an Executive Sport Management Program;
“The six day intensive residential programme focused on providing senior executives with the most recent sport management knowledge and skills which enhance our leadership capabilities, made our communication more effective and advanced and refined our negotiation and marketing skills.” - Katrina used the grant to complete a Level 2 Coaching Certificate for Basketball, this progressed her skills to coaching at the National Schools Championships;
“The course itself was of high quality. The opportunity to network with other coaches and be exposed to alternative methods and view points was invaluable to my development as a coach” - The Lakemba Sports and Recreation Club in Sydney, will be using the funding to go towards training 60 women in a soccer coaching course. Significantly, all of the women are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds where sport is not a traditional pathway for women.
- The Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan Aboriginal Corporation will be using its grant to conduct introductory basketball officiating courses throughout the East Kimberley region in Western Australia. The aim is to put 100 women through the course.
