Supporting NCACE

The NCACE philosophy is an ‘integrated approach to sporting excellence’. For coaches and athletes to successfully achieve this requires support from their sport, family and their community.

You can help NCACE and the development of Australia’s coaches and elite athletes, by valuing the benefit of coaches and athletes blending their sporting career with their educational and career pursuits, and benefiting from the commitment and passion they bring to your environment. How can you do this? Here are some ideas:

Educators can support coaches and athletes to combine sport and education commitments by:

  • providing flexibility within study programs and assessment requirements to allow for periods away competing and training
  • believing in the athlete’s aspiration to achieve dual goals, and not force them to choose one or the other.

Employers can support coaches and athletes to combine their sport and employment commitments by:

  • providing flexible work conditions to allow for time away for competitions and training and, in return, enjoy the motivation and dedication an athlete brings to your workplace.

Areas of invaluable support to coaches and elite athletes from the community include provision of:

  • work experience opportunities that help athletes determine which career is best suited to them
  • career mentors who can assist athletes in developing to their full potential in their careers outside of sport and, in turn, benefit themselves from the association with elite sport
  • networking opportunities that provide athletes with a wide range of contacts to ascertain and maximise their capabilities
  • sponsorship, both cash and in-kind, to progress invaluable career and education opportunities for athletes that may otherwise be beyond athletes' resourcing due to the significant sacrifices they make in achieving their sporting goals.

The qualities needed to succeed in sport and life are not dissimilar. It takes talent, commitment and dedication.
