Community sport newsletter launched

ASC newsletter for community sport
The Australian Sports Commission launches a new community sport newsletter.
27 Nov 2008

The ASC recently launched a new community sport newsletter – both online and hard copy. The newsletter aims to keep people up to date with programs, projects and news from community pools, school yards, and sporting ovals from all over Australia.

The newsletters are jam packed with stories from all corners of Australia. Read about the ground breaking culturally and linguistically diverse education resource aimed at increasing participation for all, find out who won the Active After-school Communities program’s national 5 Star Community Coach award and learn about what the ASC is doing with Bowls Australia to revolutionise women’s participation in the sport.

You may be wondering what ‘community sport’ is all about and what the ASC does in this area. The ASC’s Community Sport division provides Australians from all backgrounds with increased opportunities to participate in inclusive structured physical activity including sport.

We do this in many ways, for example we run programs aimed at getting kids more active, funding women to be involved in sport leadership, creating free classroom materials aimed at teaching traditional indigenous games. We also work hand in hand with national sporting organisations, state and local governments, schools and community organisations. Together, we make sport more accessible, fun and safe for more Australians.
