In mid-2010 the ASC began working with Hockey Victoria, Hockey Australia and the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission to increase sexual and gender diversity in sport and promote safe and inclusive environments for all sporting participants.

Four Victorian hockey clubs are involved in the pilot program and have been conducting club-based activities to increase awareness about making their club, sport and supporters more inclusive.

As a demonstration of support for the program, on Saturday 3 July, the two Camberwell Hockey Club state league 1 teams wore Fair go, sport! rainbow socks. They also played for the honour of the Fair go, sport! Cup.

Camberwell Junior Hockey Club president Harry Drakos said the club’s whole philosophy is about inclusion. ‘Everyone out there regardless of skill, gender, or any other matter, should be able to play in the sport of their choice.’

The ASC's Sports Integrity team has been working very closely with the pilot clubs and partners over the past 18 months. The model developed in the Fair go, sport! pilot program will provide a model that can be transferred to other sporting codes and has huge potential for tackling discrimination.

Research shows that gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and inter-sex people continue to experience widespread discrimination and abuse that prevents them from participating in sport. The Sports Integrity section works with Australian sport to make it more inclusive and develops initiatives to address these issues.
