Officials

An official is any person who controls the actual play of a competition by applying the rules and laws of the sport to make judgments on rule infringement, performance, time and score.

Officials play a key role in ensuring the spirit of the game and/or event is observed by all. Officials also help athletes develop through their chosen sport. It is essential that officials provide all people of varying ages the best possible sporting experience, which will ensure their continued participation and development in sport.

There is a high demand for more officials in every sport from grassroots through to elite level. It is important that officials are equipped to perform their role. Accreditation through the National Officiating Accreditation Scheme is an important step for all officials.

The ASC is committed to developing quality services to Australia’s officials. To this end, a National Officiating Advisory Group has been established. This group is made up of leading officials from a range of sports with the aim of raising and addressing issues facing officials, and providing strategic direction for future initiatives of the ASC.

This section of the website is designed to support new and current officials, with tools and resources to assist in day to day officiating activities, as well as education and development information.
