Role of national sporting organisations questions

Frequently asked questions

Q. What is the role of national sporting organisations within the AASC program?
A.
To assist with the development of a national delivery structure for their sport at both state/territory and local club level. This could involve:

  • developing/promoting (if not already in existence) a national sport specific training program which better meets community coach needs
  • exploring pathway opportunities and promotion opportunities for the engagement of AASC participants in programs at the community level
  • identifying and targeting areas of growth around Australia
  • providing joint opportunities for professional development of AASC regional coordinators and NSO development officers
  • developing a communication structure that promotes liaison with appropriate stakeholders at all levels.

Note:

1. With the varied management and governance infrastructure of each NSO there may not be the capacity to coordinate involvement in the AASC program through a national approach. As such, state/territory and local community bodies (including clubs and private providers) are critical players in the delivery framework.

2. It is an essential role of the regional coordinator to work from the ground up in understanding and supporting local community delivery opportunities as well as the construct of modified junior sport specific programs from a national perspective.
