About
The Junior Sport unit (JSU), along with the Active After-school Communities program, is part of the Community Sport Division at the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), which has a focus on developing grass roots sport and aims to provide opportunities for children and young people to actively participate in a fun, safe and quality sporting environment.
The JSU is responsible for:
-
assisting National Sporting Organisations to develop and implement junior sport policies consistent with the Australian Sports Commission’s Junior Sport Framework and the vision for junior sport in Australia.
-
oversight of the delivery of the Schools Network, which aims to connect schools and sports.
-
assisting the state and territory department’s of sport and recreation with promotion and management of junior sport.
-
guiding the development of junior sport resources on a national level.
Network of Junior Sport Co-ordinators
The JSU works collaboratively with a number of key organisations at national, state and local community levels in developing and delivering positive junior sport experiences and environments.
Each state and territory, through the state departments of sport and recreation, employ a Junior Sport Coordinator responsible for assisting the sporting industry to nurture and develop their junior sport environment. These coordinators provide guidance on a broad number of aspects of junior sport depending on the needs and priorities of their state and assist sports to prepare for and respond to current issues.
Your state sporting organisation, the state Junior Sport Coordinator or the State Sporting Organisation for the relevant sport is the best first point of contact with junior sport issues and enquiries. To find out how to contact them, please refer to the JSU contacts page.
