Game description

On a 3 x 3 noughts and crosses grid pairs compete against each other to try and get 3 arrows in a row across, down, or diagonally on the grid.

What you need (setting up)

  • 5 x foam arrows for each archer (one colour each if possible) or alternative throwing objects, e.g. tennis ball, table tennis ball, squash ball, scrunched up paper and tape.
  • If different coloured arrows are not available and throwing objects are used, pairs can mark their scores on a record sheet that equates to their score on the larger target. Alternatively, marks can be made on a wall with chalk and washed off after each round.
  • 1 x large 3 x 3 noughts and crosses grid per pair.
  • Cones or markers to define the shooting line.

What to do

  • Taking turns, archers compete against each other to try and get 3 arrows in a row across, down, or diagonally on the grid.
  • Mark hits on a record sheet or wall if needed.

Scoring

  • Three arrows in a row wins.

Change it

  • Play individuals against one another.
  • Play in teams greater than 2. Each person taking turns alternatively shooting at the target. The first person in each team to achieve 3 in a row wins.

Safety

  • Ensure no one is around the playing area.
  • Ensure sufficient space between each group.
  • Be aware of the rebound off the wall.
