Associated sport: Football (Soccer)
Indoor-friendly: Yes
Pool-friendly: No

Game description

Groups of 6 or more are placed over a playing area. In even teams, the team with the ball aims to make 5 passes between team-mates without the ball being intercepted by the other team.

What you need (setting up)

  • Indoor or outdoor playing area.
  • 1 x football (soccer ball) or similar for each team of 6 players.
  • 3 x bibs/sashes or alternative to distinguish players per team of 6 players.

What to do

  • The team with the ball tries to make 5 passes between team-mates, then change possession.
  • If the team without the ball prevents the 5 passes being made, they score one point and they become the attacking team.

Scoring

  • 5 passes = 2 points.
  • 3 passes = 1 point.
  • Prevention of 5 passes = 1 point.
  • Vary the number of passes.

Change it

  • Set a time limit. Teams determine how many passes they can make in a set time? Possession stays with the same team for the established time period, e.g. 45 seconds. The team without the ball counts how many times they can tag a player or intercept the ball.
  • Change the team size. Try different combinations, e.g. 3 v 4, 2 v 3.

Safety

  • Ensure there is adequate space for the number of players.
  • Ensure the playing areas is free of obstructions.

Ask the players

  • If you are an attacker, where will you pass the ball?
  • How can you get away from your defender?
  • If you are a defender, how can you make it hard for your opponent to pass?
  • How can you work together to stop a pass from getting through?
