Game description

Players continuously jump from lily pad to lily pad using a two-feet forward jump. (Play in groups of 4 – 8.)

What you need (setting up)

  • 4 x cones or markers to mark a 10 x 10 metre square (the pond).
  • 8 - 10 x hoops.
  • Optional: small sized boxes low enough for players to jump onto.

What to do

  • Randomly distribute the hoops (lily pads) inside the pond, making sure they are not too far away from each other, i.e., jumping distance.
  • Player jumps from lily pad to lily pad to see how many they can land on in a given amount of time, e.g. 60 seconds.
  • Player may jump into the pond as well as onto the lily pads.

Frogs and lily pads

Change it

  • Increase or decrease the distance between the lily pads to vary the jumps, e.g. jump for height and jump for distance.
  • Use low boxes, mats or sand as lily pads for children to jump onto, instead of hoops.

Safety

  • Ensure appropriate jumping distance for the ability levels of the players.
