Game description

Gates are set up over a course. Players dribble a ball around the course passing between, or moving around, each gate.

What you need (setting up)

  • 20 - 24 x cones or markers to define the playing area.
  • 1 x hockey stick or similar per player.
  • 1 x tennis ball or soft ball per player.
  • 1 x stopwatch.

What to do

  • Start by dribbling a ball around the course from a start gate.
  • The game finishes when time is up, e.g. 30 seconds or when the course is completed.

Scoring

  • Count the number of gates passed in a set amount of time.

Change it

  • Move cones or markers closer together or further apart.
  • Change the size of the course.
  • Add pushing stations where players can aim to hit a target.

Safety

  • Hockey sticks must be kept close the ground.
  • Playing area is free of obstructions.

  • What might happen if you run too quickly when dribbling?
  • Why is it hard to change direction when dribbling?
