Game description

Runners start in the middle, move to 1 end and try to hit a target. After 4 steps players must pass the ball. Defenders must prevent the ball from hitting the target. (Play in teams of 3 or more).

What you need (setting up)

  • Suitable indoor or outdoor playing area - basketball court size.
  • 8 x cones, markers or tape to mark 'No-Go' zones.
  • 1 x hockey stick per player.
  • 1 x hockey ball, or similar, per game.
  • 2 x targets - large cones, cricket wickets or alternative.

What to do

  • 3 v 3 or 4 v 4.
  • Each team has has a goal area.
  • 1 team (attackers) starts with possession in the centre.
  • Attackers:
    • use hockey sticks to pass the ball to each other.
    • hit the target from outside of the 'No-Go' area and from the front.
  • Defenders:
    • try to intercept the ball being hit by the attackers.
    • try to prevent the ball from hitting the target.
    • become the attachers when the ball is intercepted and try to hit their target.
  • Only 1 defender is allowed to tackle an attacker.
  • When the attacking team hits the target, the defending team hits the ball in from their baseline.

Scoring

  • 1 point for hitting the target.

Change it

  • Players can score from all around the the target.
  • Each player must touch the ball before a shot for goal is allowed.

Safety

  • Ensure a smooth playing area with adequate space between groups.
  • No defenders are allowed to stand directly in front of the target area.

  • Where will you run to, to be in a good position to score?
  • How can you work together to get the team into a good scoring position?
