Game description

Player uses the elements of a rowing stroke to move their racing boat (shell) through different courses.

What you need (setting up)

  • A pool or safe open water.
  • 1 - 2 x foam pool noodles.
  • 1 x personal flotation device (life jacket).

What to do

  • Player straddles the pool noodles in the water and faces the opposite direction to where they want to go.
  • Using straight arms as oars the player begins by reaching backwards, placing their hands in the water then pulling forward (keeping the arms straight) through the water to make the boat move.
  • Repeat the process to continue propelling the boat forward.
  • Row a straight course.
  • Repeat the course by weaving the boat gently left and right.

  • Add items in the water to paddle around.
  • Time the activity. The player tries to beat each course time.
  • Try paddling forwards and backwards.

Safety

  • Perform activities in enough water and away from the edges to avoid colliding with the bottom or sides of the pool.
  • Ensure supervision is provided.
