Game description

The playing area has a scoreline at each end. The team with the ball aims to pass the ball over their opponent's scoreline. Teams are allowed 3 minutes of possession. (Play in teams of 4).

What you need (setting up)

  • 4 x cones or markers to define the playing area.
  • 1 x size 4 football per game.

What to do

  • 4 v 4.
  • One team with possession begins play with a tap kick.
  • The player in posession runs toward their scoreline to try and score a try.
  • When tagged, the player plays the ball to re-start the game.
  • There must be 2 backward passes after each play-the-ball.
  • Defenders cannot move for 3 seconds after each play-the-ball or until after the second backward pass has been made.
  • 1 player can mark the player playing the ball.

Scoring

  • The team with the most amount of tries scored is the winner.

Change it

  • Change the number of players on a team, e.g. 3 v 5, 5 v 7.
  • Reduce or enlarge the playing area.

Safety

  • Ensure the playing area is flat and free of obstructions.

Ask the players

  • Is it better to pressure the passer or the receiver when defending?
