Game description

A player completes a course representative of elements of sailing.

What you need (setting up)

  • Land:
    • An indoor or outdoor playing area 20 metres in length.
    • 3 x cones or markers. 
  • Alternative to land if water is available:
    • 1 x boat.
    • 1 x buoy at turning mark upwind from the starting mark.
    • 1x personal flotation device (Life jacket).

What to do

  • Establish a course and complete activities
    • run to starboard (right)
    • run to port (left)
    • water on the bow (bob down, swish the water from the front with the arms, then jump back up)
    • water on the stern (bob down  - swish the water from the back with the arms then jump back up)
    • tack (zig- zag using 3-4 steps each direction)
    • jibe (run in an arc back to the starting cone)
    • watch out for the boom (run to the middle, lie flat on the back, stand then run to finish).  
  • Alternative to land if water is available.
  • Where water and a boat are available, player tacks and jibes to complete the course.

Scoring

  • Time the course. Player tries to beat each course time.

Change it

  • Use all or a selection of activities.
  • Increase or decrease the distance of the course.

Safety

  • Ensure the playing area is flat and clear of any obstructions.
  • Ensure supervision is provided if activities are undertaken in water.
