Game description

2 teams, 1 on either side of a pool. Players in each team receive a number that corresponds with a player on the opposite team. The coach calls out 1 or 2 numbers. The players with those numbers try to be the first to complete the course.

What you need (setting up)

  • 2 x buoys.
  • 1 x pair of goggles per player.

What to do

  • Groups of 6 - 8.
  • Each group stands on opposite sides of the playing area.
  • Players are numbered with a corresponding number on the opposite team.
  • When numbers are called by the coach, players swim to the middle, around their buoy and back to their wall.

Swimming - single swimmer

Scoring

  • The winning team scores 2 points and the runners up receive 1 point.
  • Highest score at the end of the round wins.

Change it

  • Walk or run out and swim back.
  • Coach staggers multiple calls so one number gets a head start.
  • Players swim clockwise around both buoys before returning to their side of the pool.
  • Increase the number of participants to 2 or more 'competing' at one time.
  • Change the stroke.

Safety

  • Water depth should be suitable for the ability level of all participants.
  • Ensure there is sufficient space between participants.
  • Watch out for others in the water.
  • Ensure supervision is provided.
