Game description

A swimmer completes a circuit of activities that explore movements in the water.

What you need (setting up)

  • A pool or safe, calm open water.
  • Optional: music.

What to do

  • Swimmer holds on to the side of the pool then pushes off with their feet as hard as they can.
  • The body floats, completely straight and rigid, face-up on the surface.
  • Gently kick to the other end of the pool practicing slow backstroke moves across the pool stopping the arm at 45 degrees, 90 degrees and 180 degrees.
  • Tread water and explore different ways of doing turns – ¼ turn (90 degrees), ½ turn (180 degrees), full turn (360 degrees with spotting) in a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction.
  • Do a hand stand with straight legs.
  • Try the same activity bending one leg resting the foot on the knee. Try with the other leg.
  • Combine some moves.

Safety

  • Perform activities in enough water to avoid colliding with the bottom of the pool.
  • Ensure supervision is provided.
