Game description

Players move and create positions in the water as individuals and as members of a team.

What you need (setting up)

  • Pool or safe open water.
  • Optional: music.

What to do

  • Activity 1:
    • Children walk, run or swim around on their stomachs with their heads up so they can see others.
    • When the coach calls 'Freeze!' players walking or running freeze on the spot. Swimmers jump to their feet and freeze on the spot.
  • Activity 2:
    • Children walk, run or swim around on their stomachs with their heads up so they can see others.
    • Coach calls number and body part combinations, e.g. 2 hands; 3 feet; 4 heads. 
    • Groups form and float together making the combinations called.
    • Players hold the positions formed for a set time, e.g. 10 seconds.
    • Players must always be in contact with one another.

Change it

  • Activity 1:
    • Add music - start for movement and stop for freeze positions.
    • Players all swim in the same direction.
    • Add another call. When 'Shore!' is called everyone swims towards the coach.
  • Activity 2:
    • Form teams of the same size.
    • The coach calls a combination and allows all teams 60 seconds to discuss what position they will create.
    • When the coach calls 'Go!' all teams create their position.
    • Positions must move, e.g. all players moving left or right in unison.
    • Introduce music - teams perform their combinations to music.

  • Water depth should be suitable for the ability level of all participants.
  • Ensure supervision is provided.
