Game description

On a call from the coach, players run or swim towards the coach (here), away from the coach (there), or perform a movement on the spot (nowhere).

What you need (setting up)

  • 4 x cones or markers to define the playing area on land.
  • Pool or safe, calm open water.
  • Lane ropes to define the playing area in the water if desired.

What to do

  • Start the activity on land before progressing to the water.
  • Land:
    • 'Here!' - players run towards the coach. 
    • 'There!' - players run away from the coach in the direction the coach is pointing.
    • 'Nowhere!' - players stand or walk on the spot with swimming arms or run on the spot.
  • Water (as above and):
    • 'Here!' - players swim towards the coach.
    • 'There!' - players swim away from the coach in the direction the coach is pointing.
    • 'Nowhere' - players choose a direction to swim away from others (nominate a number of strokes).
  • Change the stroke.
  • On the call of 'Nowhere', swimmers perform nominated activities:
    • quarter, half, full turns.
    • treading water.
    • treading water and clapping above the head a nominated number of times.
    • handstand.
    • duck dives.

Change it

  • Increase or decrease the duration of each activity.
  • Perform activities in pairs or small groups of 3 - 4.

Safety

  • Water depth should be suitable for the ability level of all participants.
  • Ensure there is sufficient space between participants.
  • Be aware of others during the activity.
  • Ensure supervision is provided.
