Game description

Working in pairs, players complete a hit-and-rally circuit with 60 seconds at each station. The aim is to rally for as many shots as possible. Pairs move from station to station on a signal.

What you need (setting up)

  • Parallel playing areas and sufficient space between stations.
  • 1 x tennis racquet, or similar, per player.
  • 1 x low compression tennis ball, or similar, per pair.
  • 8 x cones, markers or tape.
  • 1 x stopwatch.
  • 4 x obstacles, e.g. bench, low net, or 'No-Go' areas.

What to do

  • Players aim to rally for the 60 seconds of time.
  • An underarm throw may be used to start play.
  • Players rally against each other, but also work in pairs to try to keep the ball moving.
  • Players move in an orderly manner to the next station on a signal once the 60 seconds have finished.

Scoring

  • Players count each ball hit in the rally.
  • 5 point bonus for keeping the rally going for 60 seconds.

Change it

  • Allow 2 bounces.
  • Vary the width of the 'No-Go' areas.
  • Vary the length of the hits.
  • Rotate one side of players every 60 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
  • Repeat the same activity a set number of times before moving on. Teams can either compete against other teams or with themselves to achieve the highest score at each station.

Safety

  • Provide sufficient space between groups.
  • Balls are retrieved from another group's court only after play there has stopped.
  • No hard hitting.
