The Women and Sport unit works in unison with other ASC programs to make sport more inclusive for women form all backgrounds.

The Australian Sports Commission conducts research, and identifies and develops innovative policies, programs and practices that address gender and equality issues in sport in Australia.

The Australian Sports Commissions aims to foster a culture that actively:

  • advocates the enduring values of fair play and inclusive practices in sport, and
  • promotes equality and respect for women and girls in all aspects of sport with the aim of creating a sporting environment that is more inclusive and supportive of the participation of women and girls.


The program provides:

  • consultancy advice and support to Government, national sporting organisations and national agencies

  • leadership and a coordinated approach to women and sport issues to key national/state agencies and networks

  • policy advice

  • resource development

  • research

  • advice to enquiries from public, media and sport industry

  • advocacy of the principles and values of equity

  • contribution to international programs and networks

  • funding through the Sports Leadership Grants and Scholarships for Women program

  • assistance and support for women through the Women in Sport Leaderships Register
