Grants

Sport Leadership Grants for Women recipients are provided with a one-off sport leadership grant of up to $5,000 for individuals and up to $10,000 for organisations. These grants are provided to undertake intermediate or advanced training within an existing pathway in the sports industry as coaches, officials and administrators to reach their leadership potential.

Grants can cover:*

  • Course fees
  • Presenter fees
  • Presenter travel
  • Translator or interpreter fees
  • Participant travel costs (long distance only)
  • Child care (if required)

 Grants will not cover:

  • Equipment
  • Resources
  • Text books
  • Accommodation
  • Uniforms
  • Salaries
  • Competition entry
  • Administration costs
  • Venue hire
  • Catering
  • Sports trainers
  • Fitness or first aid training
  • Retrospective course costs

*These activities must commence after 1 July 2013.

In addition to undertaking identified projects, grant recipients must attend an allocated two day residential sport leadership workshop covering a range of leadership and development topics, including effective communication, conflict resolution and influencing change.

Eligibility


Individuals

To be eligible to apply for a Sport Leadership Grant for Women, individual applicants must be:

  • female
  • aged 18 years or over
  • an Australian citizen or have been granted permanent residence status
  • involved in a paid or volunteer capacity at a local, state or national level in the sport industry
  • commencing the proposed project after 1 July 2013
  • supported by a sporting organisation affiliated with a National Sporting Organisation that is recognised by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC)*
  • available to attend an allocated ASC Leadership workshop.

Notes:

  • Applications in the officiating and coaching stream for beginner or introductory courses will be ineligible.  In these categories the courses must be intermediate or advanced courses for coaches and officials to build on their skills to become leaders.
  • Applications to assist the costs of University bachelor degrees will be looked on more favourably where the applicant has a history as a volunteer or staff member of a sporting organisation.
  • ASC employees are ineligible to receive an individual grant.

Organisations

To be eligible for a Sport Leadership Grant for Women, sporting organisations must be:

  • affiliated with a National Sporting Organisation that is recognised by the ASC*
  • commencing the proposed project after 1 July 2013
  • committed to support, encourage and provide appropriate ongoing opportunities to female beneficiaries of the grant
  • able to nominate an aspiring woman leader from your organisation who is participating in your project to attend an allocated ASC Sport Leadership Workshop.

  • Applications from organisations in the officiating and coaching stream proposing to run beginner or introductory courses will be ineligible.  In these categories the courses must be intermediate or advanced courses for coaches and officials to build on their skills to become leaders.
