Scholarships for Women
The Australian Sports Commission announced the introduction of Scholarships as part of the Sport Leadership Grants for Women in the 2009/10 round.
These scholarships are aimed at women who are already established at a reasonable level in sport to assist them in attaining prominent leadership roles within sporting organisations. The scholarships follow a Pathway Plan over a three year period, developing and mentoring the recipients along the way.
Scholarships are available in the following areas:
- Coaching
- Officiating
- Governance
- Management / Administration
- Communications / Media / Marketing
The successful applicants are required to enter an agreement and to provide a Pathway Plan detailing selected courses, professional development opportunities and objectives. It is anticipated that these women will, as they progress along their pathway, develop leadership and management skills and will affect change therefore increasing the involvement of women across all areas of the sport.
The Australian Sports Commission will further enhance the scholarship program through provision of:
- Mentorships - The ASC will match successful applicants with an appropriate mentor. Successful applicants and the mentors will contribute to the matching or selection of the partnering. It is anticipated that the scholarship recipients will, as they progress along their Pathway will at some point become a Mentor themselves.
