ASC pledges support for national anti-racism campaign
Opportunity for Australians to reflect on, oppose and prevent racism in sport.
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has pledged its ongoing support for the Australian Human Rights Commission’s (AHRC) national anti-racism campaign: ‘Racism. It Stops With Me’.
'Racism. It Stops With Me’ provides an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on, and to oppose and prevent racism in sport and the wider community.
The campaign aims to empower individuals and organisations to prevent and respond effectively to racism in Australia. It not only draws awareness to the presence of racism in the community, but aims to change the prevailing attitudes and behaviours that lead to, and perpetuate racial discrimination in the workplace and the wider community.
To support the campaign, the ASC is encouraging sportspeople and clubs/associations to pledge their support for the campaign and to never excuse or condone acts of racism.
Many sports stars and sporting organisations have already signed up to support the campaign, including the ASC and Play By the Rules.
You can access a range of tools and resources on the Play by the Rules website, which have been developed to assist you or your sporting club to prevent racism and to take action should it occur.
As part of the campaign, the AHRC and Play by the Rules are also developing a community service announcement video, featuring some of our national sporting heroes, which will be launched in May.
The ASC in partnership with Play by the Rules will run a competition to profile case studies of good practice initiatives, which help to prevent, respond to, and raise awareness of racism. The case studies for the anti-racism campaign will feature on the Play by the Rules website.
To enter, complete the form available on the Play by the Rules website — with a description of your case studies or good practices to prevent racism — and email them to admin@playbytherules.net.au by 14 April 2013.
All entries will go into a random draw to win an Australian Institute of Sport clothing pack valued at $300.
