Resources
Play by the Rules is a key resource for the Australian sporting community which delivers information, resources, tools, online training and campaigns around safe, fair and inclusive sport.
Play by the Rules is a unique collaboration between the Australian Sports Commission, Australian Human Rights Commission, all state and territory departments of sport and recreation, all state and territory anti-discrimination and human rights agencies, the NSW Commission for Children and Young People and the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA). These partners promote Play by the Rules through their networks, along with their own child safety, anti-discrimination and inclusion programs.
All Play by the Rules activities and resources are aimed at making it as easy as possible for sport to develop systems to prevent and deal with discrimination, harassment and child safety issues. For information go to
The Australian Sports Commission has also developed other resources specifically for national sporting organisations that can also be adapted to both state and community sport environments.
The key resource is the Member Protection Policy Template that assists all funded and recognised sports in Australia to develop their own Member Protection Policy. This policy is supported by education and training to key individuals in sport through two free online training courses, one for Member Protection Officers and the other specifically for people who handle complaints.
Another key resource is Ethicall, an external phone service run by St James Ethics Centre to assist people with those ethical dilemma’s in sport that are not just black and white.
