Australian Football
The Targeted Sports Participation Growth Program developed by the Australian Football League (AFL) focuses on the further enhancement of their Auskick program.
AFL Auskick is the introductory coaching program for primary school aged children. It is based on fun, learning skills and being with friends in a safe, community environment managed by parents and other volunteers. The program runs for a minimum of ten weeks and in addition to the coaching and playing experience, each child receives a package of benefits that include a football, cap, membership card, CD ROM, poster, book, backpack and skills guide.
The AFL has secured Simpson as naming rights sponsor of the program. The partnership between the AFL, the Australian Sports Commission and Simpson will:
- provide greater opportunities to raise awareness of the program and for the AFL to recruit new participants
- extend the reach of the program and the brands into regional, rural and Indigenous communities
- develop a more cohesive national participation pathway and link Auskick participants into ongoing club membership
- promote club and community values
The AFL is rolling out the program across all states. Through a process of regional mapping, it seeks to identify clusters of clubs, schools and AFL Auskick centres in order to assist in identifying any potential gaps in the participation pathway and maximise return from the program.
