Membership growth - Tennis

The Targeted Sports Participation Growth Program developed by Tennis Australia focuses on getting more people playing tennis in regional areas. The program, called MILO Tennis Over Australia, includes an upgrading and restructuring of regional, country and junior tournaments.

The program has three major elements:

  • regional club development with an education process that will improve communication skills, and identify avenues to improve facilities and opportunities to increase member satisfaction
  • an open regional/country tournament format linked to the global rating program
  • a revamp of the junior regional/country tournament circuit, including the establishment of a separate section for 9 to 11-year-olds to better facilitate the transition from junior club membership to tournament play.

Each part of the program is linked and targeted at clubs and areas with the capacity to grow active membership. The goals are to:

  • create tennis growth in regional areas
  • increase overall membership
  • bolster tournament participation nationally
  • implement a global player ratings program
  • improve club/centre business operations including tournament management.
