Abbey Hromenko

Abbey HromenkoAbbey Hromenko was dedicated to training and strived to improve herself during each competition she attended. Her commitment paid off when she was selected to represent Victoria at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships, achieving one of her goals. “By being able to attend this competition, I am now able to say that I have competed for Victoria.  That was one of my goals in athletics” Abbey said.

To assist her in attending the National Championships in Perth, Abbey received a Local Sporting Champions grant in 2016. Abbey greatly appreciated the support from the Australian Institute of Sport and added that “without the $500, it meant a big strain on my family. The grant made it easier for me to attend the competition with my mum, without the extra burden of finding more money”.

In 2016 Abbey represented Victoria at the School Sport Australia All Schools Championships. She also qualified for the National Championships, but was unable to attend.  Abbey said that she “advanced to the next stage of School Sport Victoria with our local school, and am aiming at again competing at the next State Championships in October 2017”.

Abbey also has an interest in netball, and her ultimate goal in the future is to represent Australia in sport. “I am so proud of what I have achieved so far, and this has inspired me to work harder to see how far I can go in all the sports fields that I love” she commented.
