Charlie Voudouris

Charlie VoudourisFor approximately five years Charlie Voudouris has been the Artistic Roller Skating National Champion, as well as the Victorian State Champion multiple times. Charlie was selected to represent Australia at the 2014 and 2015 Oceania Championships, however was unable to attend due to the associated high costs. “Attending championships becomes financially impossible as the cost of competing, airfares and accommodation can reach thousands” he stated.

To assist with attending the Artistic Roller Skating National Championships, and ease the financial pressure off his mother, Charlie received a Local Sporting Champions grant in 2013 and 2015. He expressed his gratitude towards the Australian Institute of Sport saying “thank you for the ongoing grants, as it assists athletes like myself that may not always be able to afford the expenses of such a financially demanding sport”.

Charlie went on to explain the importance of the National Artistic Skating Championships saying “it is the highest level national competition in Australia that I am able to compete in”.  He received a gold medal and outstanding marks at the 2015 National Championships, and in 2016 went on to achieve his personal best, and the highest score of the competition, winning another gold medal.

Charlie is continuing to train hard as he hopes to excel at the 2017 Artistic Roller Skating National Championships, attend the 2017 World Championships and progress to the 2018 World Championships, with his ultimate dream to become a World Champion.
