Message from the CEO

Australian athletes are well on their way to PyeongChang  for the 2018 Winter Paralympic Games. We’ll have a small but strong team of 15 athletes taking part taking part in the biggest Winter Paralympics ever.

We know captains Mitchell Gourley and Joany Badenhorst will lead the team well, with support from Chef de Mission Nick Dean and the entire Australian Paralympic Committee.

As a nation we are proud of our athletes and coaches in all fields of play and I’m optimistic that our team will be competitive in their endeavours for podium success. I am especially delighted by the contribution that the Australian Government through the Australian Sports Commission has been able to make in channelling funding to winter sports to help them achieve their best on the world’s premier winter competition stage.

The efforts by team officials, sports medicine and sports science staff and a myriad of other supporters all form part of the tradition of Australians striving to achieve their best no matter the odds. Such is again the case for these Games and I will be cheering for all of our athletes as they seek the accomplishment of their dreams in their sport.

Where ever you are, take a moment to applaud the determination and intensity of these competitors in their quest for success made possible by the strength of the Australian Institute Network and National Sporting Organisations in preparing them for the Games.
