Abby Craswell

I am studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) at Griffith university, and I have selected 2 units to complete this trimester. These units are 1020HSV and 3121FPH. I have selected both these units will help me continue moving forwards in my degree as well as opening up opportunities to possibly transfer into other desired courses. I am a part time student as I have athletic competitions such as National Championships and World Championships later in the year to prepare for.

I feel as though every athlete should have different outlets besides their sport. This helps create a well-rounded athlete with other interests and hobbies. Having something else to focus on besides sport means that I can unlock other interests and be well acquainted for future life experiences. Studying a degree at university allows me to be passionate in another area of life assisting my mental health and unlocking my potential to win well in all aspects. Studying also helps develop discipline, problem-solving, time management, and the ability to focus—qualities essential for both sports and life. This balance is important for athletes, as overtraining without mental stimulation can lead to burnout. Pursuing academic success alongside your sport creates a healthy equilibrium that ensures both your mind and body are nurtured.
