Water Polo. Australian Catholic University. Bachelor of Physiotherapy.

Alex Nasser

Studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy has been both challenging and rewarding. The four-year degree covers a wide range of subjects like anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and pathophysiology, all focused on understanding how the body moves and functions. As the course progresses, there’s a big emphasis on developing hands-on skills—learning how to assess, diagnose, and treat different conditions affecting the musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiopulmonary systems. One of the most valuable parts of the degree is the clinical placements, where I get real-world experience working with patients under professional supervision, applying what I've learned in a practical setting.

As an elite water polo athlete, physiotherapy felt like a natural fit for me. Being in a high-performance environment with up to 13 training sessions a week, I’ve seen firsthand how important physiotherapists are, not just for treating injuries but for preventing them and helping athletes perform at their best. I’ve personally relied on physios throughout my career, and that exposure sparked my interest in how the body works and how to keep it moving well.

What really drew me to physiotherapy is the opportunity to combine my passion for sport and health while helping others. Whether it’s working with athletes or helping someone improve their quality of life, I love the idea of using my knowledge to make a positive impact. Plus, everything I’m learning helps me better understand my own body and how to keep performing at my peak. It’s the perfect blend of my interests, and I’m excited about where it can take me both in my career and in sport.
