Athletics. University of Canberra. Bachelor of Science (Psychology).
I am enrolled in a science bachelor's degree in psychology. It involves a lot of study on the human body and physiology and also many theory based research classes like experimental psychology, survey and research design. As a whole, the course is very broad and so it allows students to do elective courses as a part of the degree. I have chosen to do many business and accounting electives as I find using the skills that are taught in the main degree, such as critical thinking, analysis and research, in a practical way is very engaging and a test of my learning.
I chose my degree in psychology after originally beginning my studies in another discipline in mid 2020 after the Paralympics were postponed. I was motivated to change from my original course to psychology because of its practical uses in everyday work, the content being more science based and the fact that a lot of the content must be memorised.
I have never done anything in the realm of psychology before university so it was very challenging in the beginning to wrap my head around all theories and concepts which most other students in my course had been familiar with since high school. However, mostly relying on my natural curiosity for learning and understanding things I have slowly but surely picked up the concepts. And now at the start of my 3rd and final year I am proud to say that I have just received the dean's academic achievement award for my results last year.
