Charli Nikola

I am currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Advanced Business (Honours) at the University of Queensland. This degree allows students to choose 2 of the 8 diverse major options or complete a research pathway in preparation for a PhD. Regardless of the pathway chosen, this customisable program has an honours year built in, which maximises my time spent studying, and allows me to graduate with an advantage over my peers. Most importantly, these varied study options empower me to tailor my education experience to suit my specific interests, which heavily lie in math and any opportunity to work with numbers.

With this degree offering majors of accounting, finance, business analytics and more, I am supplied with many options to explore my passion, whilst learning practical, people-based skills (regarding customers, employees, etc.). Another quality which motivated me to enrol in the course was the smaller cohort size. This allows me to foster deeper connections with my peers, which will undoubtedly build a foundation for future personal and professional connections. I find this a key part of my education, as it allows me to have another aspect of life and friendships outside of sport, which helps relieve some pressure to perform.

Upon graduation, my accounting major will make me eligible for professional memberships like association of Certified Chartered Accountants and many more. It also provides the career possibilities of Finance manager, consultant, accountant, and others which are likely employable at big firms like Deloitte, KPMG, PwC and EY.

Most importantly, I selected this course because it’s a highly employable degree that lies within an area I’m passionate in. I believe it will go hand-in-hand with my professional sporting aspirations, providing me with experiences and transferrable skills which will prepare me to seek meaningful career opportunities in the future.
