Rowing. The University of Adelaide. Masters of Wine Business.
I’m currently studying a Master of Wine Business at the University of Adelaide, following on from my Bachelor of Commerce which I completed in 2023. I chose this course because it combines my passion for the wine industry with my interest in business and marketing, and because of the career opportunities in South Australia.
I hope to build a career in an industry that reflects my sporting values - where teamwork and striving for excellence are key to achieving sustainable success.
I’ve always been interested in business, during my undergrad I was particularly drawn to branding. I am interested in how branding shapes consumer behaviour, especially in the wine industry. What intrigues me most is how those wine consumers, who often have a low level of knowledge about wine, frequently make purchasing decisions based on the branding and, in particular, the wine label. This led me to focus on wine marketing, as I believe there’s an incredible opportunity to bridge the gap between consumer knowledge and the wine world.
The course covers everything from wine production to marketing, management, and business development, and will give me a holistic understanding of the industry. The wine industry is changing as more young growers and makers enter the market. I've chosen to be part of this change. I’m excited to explore how we can make wine more accessible and am eager to help make the industry more inclusive and diverse. I also hope to use my background and experience as an athlete to shape healthy decision making around the importance of moderation.
The knowledge I gain will shape my future career in wine marketing but will also help me transition into life after sport. This course challenges me to think outside of the rowing world, pushing me to grow intellectually and professionally.
