Triathlon. Griffith University. Bachelor of Education.

Jack Howell

I am enrolled in the Bachelor of Education course at the Gold Coast campus of Griffith University, in my second year of study.

I have chosen this course as I am passionate about becoming a Physical Education teacher. As a Paralympian representing Australia, I am passionate about sport and recreation and would like to build a career where I can help others to enjoy sport, explore different sports and belong to inclusive sporting communities.

This course prepares students to teach in primary or secondary settings. I am studying primary education majoring in Health and Physical education. Students undertake professional practice throughout the degree which includes observation and participation in schools, practice teaching and community field studies.

Students undertake 80 days of supervised professional practice, 37.50 hours/week, across 16 weeks with a total work component of 600 hours.

When I graduate, I will be eligible to apply for registration with the Queensland College of Teachers, and the Early Childhood Major is recognised by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority. Upon completion of the course, I will be able to seek work as a teacher in the independent, Catholic and state education systems in Queensland and Australia, as well as overseas.

I would also be qualified to work in training settings in industry and government, outdoor education, adult literacy, libraries, educational research, education policy, or consultancy.
