Sailing. Curtin University. Bachelor of Engineering.

Jamie Randall

I am enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering at Curtin University in order to ultimately become an engineer after my sports career. I have a talent for maths and science, and a strong interest in various engineering fields, and wish to put my talents and passions into studying this course. The skills and thinking patterns involved in studying engineering are also well aligned with my sport of sailing, and using my mind in this way is also beneficial towards my sailing career.

Studying engineering while sailing the highly technical 470 Olympic Sailing Class have strong connections, and the real life connections I can make with things learnt in the classroom to experiences on the water are highly relevant and helpful for both contexts.

Furthermore, I not only believe that having a plan for life after sport is important, but also that being able to study alongside training and racing comes with strong benefits, providing a balanced and consequently long and sustainable sports career. With my engineering degree alongside my sporting commitments i hope to gain a job in the mechanical or electrical fields of engineering as i will be choosing my major in second year .
