Studying engineering while sailing the highly technical 470 Olympic Sailing Class have strong connections, and the real-life connections I can make with things learnt in the classroom to experiences on the water are highly relevant and helpful for both contexts. Furthermore, I not only believe that having a plan for life after sport is important, but also that being able to study alongside training and racing comes with strong benefits, providing a balanced and consequently long and sustainable sports career.
The costs involved in trying to become the best in the world in my sport of sailing are very significant, and I am always under pressure to find ways to fund my Olympic campaign. Having financial support towards my education and knowing that I am setting myself up for success not only in sport, but in life after being an athlete would be a huge support.
