Maggie Sandles

Studying a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at ACU while competing as an elite para-triathlete pushes me to grow in all areas—academically, athletically, and personally. Managing both commitments has strengthened my discipline, time management, and resilience, all of which are critical to success in both sport and life.

My degree is preparing me for a meaningful career in education, where I can guide and support students, particularly those facing challenges of their own. At the same time, my experience as an athlete has reinforced the importance of goal-setting, perseverance, and adaptability—skills that will make me a better teacher and mentor.

Financial support would allow me to remove barriers that could otherwise hold me back. Access to assistive technology, note-taking services, and captioning ensures I can fully engage in my studies, while support for transport costs allows me to balance training, study, and competition without additional financial strain. Having these resources would help me perform at my best both in the classroom and on the racecourse.

To me, winning well is about more than just results—it’s about achieving my goals while maintaining a sense of purpose, balance, and wellbeing. This scholarship would allow me to reach my full potential by supporting my long-term success in both sport and education. I want to show students, athletes, and the wider community that disability is not a limitation, and that with the right support and mindset, anything is possible.
