Cycling. University of Western Sydney. Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).
I am currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) at Western Sydney University. I chose this course because of my strong interest in physics, mathematics, and problem-solving, particularly in the application of these fields to real-world engineering challenges.
My passion for mechanical engineering is closely linked to my experience as a high-performance BMX athlete, where I have developed a deep appreciation for bike design, aerodynamics, and material performance. Through this degree, I am gaining expertise in mechanical systems, design principles, and advanced manufacturing techniques, which are essential for developing cutting-edge sports technology.
My long-term goal is to work with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) or similar high-performance institutes, contributing to the development of elite racing bicycles for the national team. I am particularly interested in designing, testing, and optimizing equipment for athletes, including custom solutions for para-athletes, whose unique requirements demand innovative engineering approaches.
This course equips me with skills in computer-aided design (CAD), structural analysis, and material science, all of which are critical for designing high-performance bikes. I aim to apply these skills in engineering roles within sports technology, focusing on enhancing speed, efficiency, and overall performance through advanced design and manufacturing techniques.
This degree provides the perfect foundation for transitioning from elite sport into a career where I can combine my technical expertise and athletic experience to help athletes perform at their best.
