Volleyball. Queensland University of Technology. Bachelor of Creative Industries / Bachelor of Data Science.
I am currently in my third year of a double degree in Data Science and Creative Industries, majoring in Interactive and Visual Design. This four-year course (full-time) equips me with the skills to make data-driven decisions while innovating through design by undertaking 96 core Creative Industries units, 96 first major units (Interactive Visual Design) as well as 192 core data science units. I chose this combination because it merges my dual passions: the analytics of data science and the creativity of design.
Additionally, the course offers the flexibility to study remotely, a necessity given my career as an elite beach volleyball athlete. Both disciplines require problem-solving, whether optimising systems through coding or crafting intuitive user experiences.
In today’s rapidly evolving world, human-centred design is becoming increasingly crucial across industries—from product and service development to engineering and business. This course has taught and tested me to create meaningful solutions that enhance efficiency and accessibility, ensuring that technology serves people effectively. Further, I have a deep appreciation for the importance of empathy and human connection in design, a trait I believe is diminishing in modern society. I am passionate about interacting with people and hope to understand the world better through personal interactions with the backing of data analytics to create efficiently working products and systems.
Through this course, I aspire to work in human-centred design, where I can leverage data and design thinking to build efficient products and systems that genuinely cater to human needs.
