Samantha Lourey

I chose to study medicine as it has always been my dream to become a doctor. Human biology was my favourite subject at school and studying medicine has only extended this passion.

As I am in the ‘clinical years’ of my medical degree, I will be on placement 35-40 hours a week for almost the entire two years. I am also training full time in the WAIS Kayak program, which has a large time demand of approx. 20-25 hours a week.

Without the assistance of this scholarship, I would be forced to reduce my training and limit competing, to take on additional work hours, all of which would compromise my performance as an athlete and a medical student. The AIS Athlete Education grant provides the financial stability to be able to focus on study and training without the added stress of earning an income.
