Julien Périard

Professor Julien Périard is Director of the University of Canberra Research Institute for Sport and Exercise (UCRISE), where he leads the Environmental Physiology Laboratory. An internationally recognised leader in environmental physiology, his work has advanced understanding of human adaptation to environmental heat stress and its implications for performance, health and resilience. He leads multidisciplinary programs spanning elite sport, public health and climate adaptation, with demonstrated impact on international policy, athlete welfare and evidence-based practice.
Professor Périard has worked extensively with organisations including the Australian Institute of Sport, World Athletics, and World Triathlon, where he has helped shape policies and practices addressing the challenges associated with exercising, working and living in extreme environments. His current work addresses the health, performance and societal challenges posed by rising global temperatures, with applications spanning elite sport, occupational health and climate adaptation.
